The Trackhouse Racing introduction of its 2024 MotoGP team in Hollywood on Friday was a major event for American motorcycle road racing and for Aprilia. There were multiple World Champions and U.S. Champions on hand, as well as representatives from the top level of Aprilia’s motorcycle road racing efforts.

Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola said that Trackhouse was important to the factory’s racing efforts. With four 2024-spec bikes on the track and in the hands of a team with close ties to the factory, Aprilia will gather more data, more feedback and thus follow Ducati’s example of using the maximum amount of information gathered on the track to hone its racebikes to their optimum on race weekends.

As is the case with most top-level motorsport launches, the machines displayed are not the actual vehicles the team will go racing with. Building a MotoGP machine is an incredibly complicated process, and Aprilia is still building the bikes for the upcoming season. Trackhouse Team Manager and former Grand Prix racer Wilco Zeelenberg said the 2024 machines that rider Miguel Oliveira will race already were in Malaysia for the first pre-season test. Interestingly, job one for the team from an on-track perspective is making sure that the 2024 machine is developed to a higher level of performance than the 2023 bike. Last year’s machine was good enough to win two races and nearly lock out the podium in Barcelona. Raul Fernandez, (who raced 2022 versions of the RS-GP in 2023), said when he got a chance to test the 2023 version of Aprilia’s RS-GP at the post-season test in Valencia, he had much, much more confidence tipping the bike toward the apex on the brakes, and his performance showed–he was fifth-fastest on the day, just behind eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez.

On hand were not only the current MotoGP riders and key personnel for the Aprilia project, but several U.S. racers who have competed at the sport’s highest level. Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz, 500cc Grand Prix World Champions; Superbike World Champion, 250cc World Champion, and three-time 500cc Grand Prix race winner John Kocinski; Joe Roberts, America’s most recent Grand Prix winner (in Moto2); four-time MotoGP podium finisher John Hopkins; and four-time AMA Superbike Champion Josh Hayes; were all on hand. (Remember, in his first and only MotoGP event, Hayes filled in for the injured Colin Edwards on the Tech3 Yamaha YZR-M1 at Valencia in 2011, led the wet morning warm-up session, and finished seventh in the MotoGP race.) All spent time talking with young American racer Rossi Moor, who has won races and the 2022 Northern Talent Cup Championship (part of the Road to MotoGP program) in Europe.

KAWASAKI SET TO DEBUT FIRST SUPER BOWL AD

Mullets Take Center Stage in Super Bowl Spot from Goodby Silverstein & Partners

Foothill Ranch, Calif. – Known for Ninja® motorcycles, JET SKI® personal watercraft and MULE™ side x sides, Kawasaki will literally blaze a new trail at Super Bowl LVIII with the first-ever Big Game spot for an off-road side x side vehicle to promote their new Kawasaki RIDGE side x side. The commercial, created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners (GS&P), pays homage to an all-American hairstyle that’s roared back to popularity in recent years: the mullet.

“The Kawasaki RIDGE combines industry-leading performance and a premium automotive-inspired interior; it’s a mix of work and play.” said Bob O’Brien, Director of Marketing, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. “The mullet is a perfect metaphor—business in the front, party in the back. We hired GS&P to help us bring this category from its current niche audience to the biggest stage in the world and generate mass awareness.”

The ad features two adventure seekers who magically grow mullets upon entering the RIDGE. As the duo tear across backcountry trails, creatures such as bald eagles and bears sprout mullets that look like they’re straight out of an ’80s metal show—culminating in the famously hair-free pro wrestling legend (and real-life Kawasaki enthusiast) Steve Austin suddenly sporting a blonde mullet as the RIDGE passes him by.

“This has all the earmarks of great Super Bowl advertising. Instant RIDGE action. Animals. A big name. Humor. And mullets. Watch any NBA game or hot video. The mullet is everywhere,” said Jeff Goodby, Co-Founder and Co-Chairman, GS&P. “Given the hairstyle’s versatile nature, it’s an unexpectedly simple way to introduce the RIDGE.”

Powersports—and especially side x side vehicles—have left their once-niche world of ranchers and adrenaline junkies and are on the verge of entering mainstream consciousness. The fastest-growing segment in powersports is now side x side vehicles, sales of which have skyrocketed as of late. During the pandemic many families realized that side x side vehicles provided the perfect way to get outside, spend time on adventures and have more fun together. Even as motorcycles sales continue to rise, side x side sales have outpaced them and are projected to overtake the powersports category.

“Kawasaki has built a legacy on pushing the limits in innovation, performance, style and attitude.” said Eigo Konya, President, Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. “Over the decades our products have evolved, but one thing remains the same—Kawasaki exists to ‘Let the Good Times Roll’.”

GS&P has a history of making famous Super Bowl ads. Over the years it’s created memorable ads for Doritos, Cheetos, bubly, Pepsi, BMW, Hyundai, Emerald Nuts, E*TRADE, Budweiser and many others.

In tandem with GS&P’s Super Bowl campaign, Kawasaki also developed a RIDGE launch campaign with marketing partner Fuse Interactive. The launch campaign, which focuses on the vehicle’s top features, introduces the tagline Peak Premium Performance. This statement will firmly plant the Kawasaki flag at the top of the premium Side x Side segment.

    ENGINE

The engine of the Ninja 500 undergoes a substantial performance upgrade, building upon the foundation of the Ninja 400 model and harnessing an additional 52cc for a heightened acceleration experience. With a new displacement of 451cc and a bore and stroke measuring 70.0mm x 58.6mm, this compact powerplant not only delivers ample power within a lightweight framework but also plays a pivotal role in the overall narrowness of the bike. This design ensures easy handling and a comfortable reach to the ground for the rider’s feet.

To achieve this enhanced performance, the engine incorporates a downdraft intake system that significantly boosts cylinder-filling efficiency and power, particularly at high rpm. A sizable 5.8-liter airbox, featuring a tall design, maximizes intake efficiency while minimizing unwanted noise. Different heights in the left and right intake funnels contribute to smoothing out torque response, resulting in improved power across the rpm range. Fuel injectors are strategically positioned close to the intake ports, ensuring efficient combustion and a linear throttle response.

Further refinements include Denso stick-type ignition coils, long-reach spark plugs, and an optimized compression ratio, all working in harmony to contribute to increased performance, efficient cooling, and reduced electrical interference. The engine’s innovative design extends to a newly designed balancer shaft, lightweight flywheel, and an Assist & Slipper clutch, collectively offering a light lever feel and instilling confidence for all riders.

The engine of a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja 500 is a stroked version of a Ninja 400 engine. Photo courtesy Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A.

Building on the engine of the Ninja 400, the Ninja 500 motorcycle incorporates a 6.8mm longer stroke for increased power and a quicker feeling of acceleration. A new crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons are introduced to suit the larger displacement, while the optimized compression ratio enhances overall engine efficiency. Notably, the top ring land of the aluminum pistons now features a hard alumite treatment, contributing to higher combustion pressure and further elevating the engine’s performance.

The combination of these advanced technologies and thoughtful design elements makes the engine of the Ninja 500 a standout feature, ensuring a powerful, responsive, and comfortable riding experience for all enthusiasts of this remarkable motorcycle.

    CHASSIS

A fundamental aspect of the design philosophy of the Ninja 500 centers around a lightweight frame, crucial for achieving a motorcycle that is not only agile but also instills a sense of confidence in the rider. The trellis frame of the Ninja 500 exemplifies this commitment to reduced weight, meticulously crafted to minimize overall mass. The frame strikes a delicate balance, ensuring a light overall weight while maintaining the rigidity and durability synonymous with Kawasaki’s engineering excellence.

The chassis of the Ninja 500 adopts a supersport-style short-wheelbase/long-swingarm configuration, coupled with an optimized trail to deliver a riding experience characterized by light, natural handling. With a short wheelbase measuring 54.1 inches, the Ninja 500 responds with ease to steering inputs, providing riders with a nimble and responsive feel on the road. The optimized swingarm pivot position further enhances the motorcycle’s handling dynamics, drawing inspiration from the characteristics of supersport machines.

Notably, the Ninja 500 employs the engine as a stressed member, utilizing rigid mounts and minimizing mounting brackets to achieve the ideal rigidity for enhanced stability. The swingarm mounting plate, constructed from aluminum diecast, directly bolts to the back of the engine. This unique design eliminates the need for cross members to ensure stability, contributing significantly to the frame’s overall light weight.

The swingarm, crafted from square tubes, further emphasizes the commitment to weight reduction by eliminating unnecessary gusseting. This meticulous attention to detail results in a frame that not only embodies Kawasaki’s performance standards but also maintains a lightweight profile without compromising on structural integrity.

The collaborative efforts in designing both the engine and frame have resulted in a remarkably low curb mass of only 377 lbs. This lightweight construction not only enhances the overall performance of the Ninja 500 but also facilitates easy handling and maneuverability, making it a standout choice for riders seeking a dynamic and accessible riding experience.

    SUSPENSION

The Ninja 500 features a robust 41mm telescopic front fork that defines excellence in suspension action. This rigid front fork not only provides an exceptionally planted feel to the front wheel but also facilitates effortless direction changes, even when the bike is upright – a valuable feature for maneuvering through traffic. The suspension system delivers a plushness typically associated with larger displacement bikes, ensuring a comfortable and responsive riding experience. The rigid front forks eliminate the need for a fender brace, contributing to weight savings, while the choice of a conventional telescopic fork further minimizes any potential increase in overall weight.

Complementing the front suspension, the Ninja 500 utilizes a bottom-link Uni-Trak® rear suspension with 5-way preload adjustability. This allows riders to fine-tune the stiffness and ride height according to individual body weight or when riding with a passenger. The shock’s adjustability is conveniently accessible through the on-board tool kit, offering riders the flexibility to tailor the bike’s performance to their preferences. The front and rear suspension settings have been meticulously optimized to accommodate the new displacement and weight of the Ninja 500, ensuring an optimal balance that enhances stability and responsiveness, particularly during braking and acceleration-induced pitching scenarios.

    BRAKES AND WHEELS

The Ninja 500 is equipped with a high-performance braking system that ensures precise and controlled stopping power. The front braking system features a large 310mm semi-floating disc gripped by a balanced actuation dual-piston caliper, providing effective braking force. The front brake master cylinder is newly designed for enhanced rigidity, contributing to the elimination of an ineffective (idle) stroke and thereby improving overall controllability. At the rear, a 220mm disc is complemented by a dual-piston caliper with large 27mm pistons, ensuring responsive and reliable braking performance.

Careful consideration was given to the dimensions and material of both front and rear brake hoses, selected to deliver excellent brake feel. For added reassurance, the ABS models of the Ninja 500 are equipped with a Nissin ABS control unit specially developed for motorcycles. This unit ensures precise control while maintaining a compact and lightweight profile.

The Ninja 500’s stylish star-pattern 5-spoke wheels, reminiscent of the Ninja® 650 motorcycle, play a pivotal role in achieving a lightweight profile. Their optimized lateral rigidity enhances overall handling and contributes to cornering stability. These wheels not only serve a functional purpose but also contribute to the bike’s aesthetically pleasing and agile appearance. Additionally, the radial tires on the Ninja 500 provide a balance of light weight and excellent grip and contribute to both agile handling and riding comfort. The 150mm rear tire adds to the bike’s imposing rear end, completing the overall design with a touch of style and performance.

    ERGONOMICS

The Ninja 500 prioritizes rider comfort and control through thoughtful ergonomic design. With an elevated handlebar position and slightly foot-forward footpeg placement, the bike achieves a relaxed rider triangle suitable for various riders and riding scenarios. This intuitive fit fosters immediate confidence, providing comfort and control right from the first sit, while the clip-on handlebars and grips with a slight down angle enhance both comfort and sporty aesthetics.

The large-volume bodywork of the Ninja 500 not only offers excellent wind protection but also promotes efficient airflow around the rider, contributing to overall ride comfort. The fuel tank, slim between the rider’s legs, ensures good contact with the bike, while its 3.7-gallon capacity strikes a balance between low weight and a sufficient cruising range for daily riding or touring. The seat, featuring low-rebound urethane and ample padding, delivers superb comfort with a flat overall shape. With a comfortable 30.9-inch seat height and supersport-style aluminum footpegs positioned slightly forward for a relaxed riding position, the Ninja 500 offers a well-rounded ergonomic experience that caters to both comfort and control, making it an ideal choice for various riding preferences.

    STYLING

The Ninja 500 epitomizes the iconic aesthetic, showcasing a redesigned front end that exudes excitement and high-class sophistication. Its large-volume bodywork aligns seamlessly with the Ninja family’s larger-displacement models, embodying Kawasaki’s commitment to quality. The compact LED headlights, akin to those on the new Ninja® ZX™-6R sportbike, contribute to the bold image of the Ninja 500. The deep-set position of the reflectors creates a fierce expression, enhanced by black extensions between the low- and high-beams, contributing to a high-quality finish.

The bodywork of the Ninja 500 creates the visual impression of a machine from a class larger than 500cc, instilling a commanding “big bike” look and feel. A newly designed upper cowl envelops the headlights, adding to the bike’s strong visual style, while two spoilers below the headlight complete the aggressive look. The mirrors, positioned high and far apart, offer an excellent rearward field of vision, and the bodywork features large painted surfaces, contributing to the bike’s high-class image.

Its sporty appearance is further accentuated by a compact supersport-style fuel tank design, a sharp front fender, and aggressive rear turn signals. The built-in front turn signals seamlessly integrate into the design, and both front and rear turn signals use clear lenses for a high-quality look. The LED taillight, sporting an all-new design, provides a modern and updated aesthetic. In essence, the Ninja 500 is a visual masterpiece, combining sleek design elements with aggressive styling to create a motorcycle that stands out in the 500cc class.

    HIGH GRADE COCKPIT

The Ninja 500 boasts an all-new high-contrast LCD instrument panel with thoughtful display placement. 2. DRIVETRAIN

“In addition to significantly higher peak output and more torque, the new engine in the GS models of the F series provides noticeably more pulling power and acceleration. This benefits the rider not only on the road, but also off the road.” Christian Geis, Project Manager GS Models F-Series

2-cylinder in-line engine with more capacity, output, and torque. In the new BMW F 800 GS, F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure, the 2-cylinder in-line engine already used in the BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR with 895 cc (previously 853 cc) capacity delivers more performance thanks to significantly increased output. In the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure, it generates 105 hp at 8,500 rpm (previously: 95 hp) and has a maximum torque of 68.6 lb-ft at 6,750 rpm (previously: 67.8 lb-ft). In the F 800 GS an output of 87 hp is available at 6,750 rpm (previously: 77 hp) as well as 67 lb-ft at 6,750 rpm (previously: 61 lb-ft). Compared to the predecessor models, output and torque have been increased and the torque curve is now significantly greater over the entire speed range. This results in noticeably more pulling power and faster acceleration.

The increase in output and the fuller torque were achieved primarily by increasing the engine capacity by enlarging the cylinder bore by 2 mm to 86 mm with a stroke of 77 mm. In addition, the cylinder heads were updated, and new forged pistons (previously cast pistons) were used. The engine, with a compression of 13.1:1, now has a crankshaft with crankshaft journals offset by 90 degrees and a 270/450 degree firing interval. This is accompanied by a particularly powerful, emotional sound, similar to that of a 90-degree V-twin engine. This sound experience is rounded off by a stainless-steel exhaust system. The new F 900 GS also comes with a standard Akrapovič sport rear muffler which saves 3.7 lbs. in weight compared to the muffler on the predecessor model.

Smooth running thanks to counterbalance shafts and dry sump for optimum reliability.

Two counterweight shafts, one in front of and one behind the crankshaft, eliminate unwanted vibrations. To prevent undesirable churning losses and to ensure maximum operational safety, the engine has a dry sump lubrication system that does not require a separate engine oil tank.

Two overhead camshafts, advanced knock control and anti-hopping clutch.

Two overhead camshafts driven by a toothed chain rotate in the cylinder head and operate four valves per cylinder via lightweight and therefore speed-resistant cam followers.

To cover a wider range of available fuel qualities, the new F 800 GS, F 900 GS, and F 900 GS Adventure are equipped with cylinder-selective knock control. The revised oxygen sensor, together with the catalytic converter, ensures more efficient and effective exhaust gas control and allow for greater range of fuel use without loss of performance.

The clutch is designed as a self-reinforcing anti-hopping clutch (oil bath clutch). It not only ensures low operating forces on the adjustable clutch lever, but also increases riding safety by reducing the engine drag torque – especially when braking and downshifting at the same time.

For fast up and down-shifting of the six-speed transmission without having to use the clutch, BMW Motorrad offers Gear Shift Assist Pro as an option.

Standard “Rain” and “Road” riding modes and DTC

To adapt to the rider’s individual wishes, the new F 800 GS, F 900 GS, and F 900 GS Adventure offer two standard riding modes: “Rain” and “Road”. Dynamic Traction Control
(DTC), which ensures a high level of riding safety, is also standard.

Optional Riding Modes Pro and Engine Drag Torque Control

The new F models can be equipped with optional Riding Modes Pro. It includes the additional riding modes “Dynamic” and “Enduro” as well as “Enduro Pro” for the F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure. Riding modes Pro also allows the rider to pre-select up to four riding modes for the button assignment on the right-hand handlebar controls. Engine Drag Torque Control is a further new component of Riding Modes Pro.

    3. SUSPENSION

“With the new F 900 GS, we have developed a GS with outstanding off-road qualities, particularly by significantly reducing weight and enhancing chassis technology. The Enduro Package Pro with sport suspension is available for ambitious off-road riding.” Sergio Fossa, Product Manager F-Series

Trellis steel frame with bolt-on frame section for optimum rigidity, robustness, and riding precision. BMW F 900 GS with new, significantly lighter plastic fuel tank.

The new F 800 GS, F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure rely on a trellis frame made of deep-drawn sheet steel parts welded together, which integrates the 2-cylinder in-line
engine as a load bearing element. The bolted-on steel rear frame makes it possible to create a visually short and slim rear end. The 3.8-gallon plastic tank of the new F 900 GS
is a completely new development saving 9.9 lbs of weight compared to the steel fuel tank of the previous model.

BMW F 900 GS with new and lighter rear section and new luggage carrier.

The new F 900 GS features a completely redesigned rear section which makes it look even more dynamic and saves around 5.3 lbs. of weight. The luggage carrier of the F 900
GS was adapted in the process in the authentic GS spirit. It allows the customer to attach soft bags, rucksacks or an aluminum case system from the original BMW Motorrad
accessories range using various attachment options. The case holder has been designed so that it can be assembled and disassembled with little effort.

Upside-down front forks and double-sided swinging arm with central rear shock. New, fully adjustable upside-down forks on the BMW F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure.

The new F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure feature new, fully adjustable, 43 mm Showa upside-down forks. The suspension travel is 9.1-inches. Depending on the area of use and individual needs, both the rebound and compression damping as well as the spring preload can be adjusted manually. As before, the F 800 GS uses 41 mm front forks with 6.7-inches of suspension travel.

The rear wheels are controlled by a double-sided aluminum swing arm in conjunction with a directly linked central shock. The swing arm has been modified for the new F 900 GS and is 0.5 lbs. lighter than in the predecessor model. In addition to a hydraulically adjustable spring base (“spring preload”), the central shock also features adjustable rebound damping. For the new BMW F 800 GS, F 900 GS, and F 900 GS Adventure: The suspension travel is 8.5-inches (F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure) and 6.7-inches (F 800 GS).

Enduro Package Pro for the new BMW F 900 GS with fully adjustable upside-down forks, fully adjustable rear shock, handlebar risers and M Endurance Chain.

For even better off-road performance, BMW Motorrad offers the optional Enduro Package Pro for the new F 900 GS. The package includes sport suspension with Showa forks, a rear shock from ZF Sachs, black tubular handlebars with 0.9-inch handlebar risers using a forged aluminum part and the particularly wear-resistant M Endurance chain.

The upside-down forks of the Enduro Package Pro are adjustable with regard to rebound and compression as well as spring preload and offer more rigidity than their standard
counterparts, all within a 2 mm larger slider tube diameter. At the same time, they save 0.4 lbs. in weight. For the first time, BMW Motorrad offers titanium nitride-coated slider
tubes in “Dark Navy Blue” on these upside-down forks. However, the titanium nitride coating is not only great to look at, but also ensures even more sensitive response
behavior and optimized protection against damage, for example from stone impacts thanks to the reduced breakaway torque between the slider tube and the fixed tube.

Compared to the standard shock, the ZF Sachs central shock with reservoir offers a 25 percent wider adjustment range and 20 percent more damping. The wider setting range
is accompanied by significantly increased protection against bottoming out as well as increased temperature stability. In this way, a wide range of use is achieved between very
sporty off-road use with a tight set-up and more leisurely off-road riding with a soft setup.

The shock is manually adjustable. Spring preload, high-speed compression and rebound are conveniently and easily accessible and can be adjusted without tools. Only adjusting
the low-speed compression requires a screwdriver.

Optional Dynamic ESA electronic rear suspension adjustment for an optimum suspension set-up on the F 800 GS and F 900 GS Adventure.

The dynamic riding experience, ride comfort and touring and passenger suitability of the new F 800 GS and F 900 GS Adventure can be enhanced even further with the optional
BMW Motorrad Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment). Dynamic ESA opens up new dimensions with regard to riding safety, performance, and comfort, as the damping of the rear shock is automatically adjusted to the riding conditions. Dynamic ESA does not work as a stand-alone system but communicates with the other control systems such as ABS Pro and DTC.

An alternative to Dynamic ESA, as part of the Premium Package, is Low Suspension which lowers seat height by 2.2 or 2.8 inches, depending on model.

Standard BMW Motorrad ABS Pro. Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) as an element of the optional Riding Modes Pro.

The front twin disc brakes with BMW Motorrad ABS Pro provides superior, stable deceleration. A single-disc brake is used on the rear wheel.

ABS Pro offers more safety when braking in turns by enabling ABS-assisted braking when leaning into corners. ABS Pro prevents the wheels from locking even when the brakes are applied quickly and reduces abrupt changes in steering force and thus the bike from returning to the upright position, even during sudden braking. The benefits are increased braking and riding stability combined with the best possible deceleration even when cornering.

Dynamic Brake Control DBC increases safety when braking, even in difficult situations, by preventing the throttle from being activated unintentionally. As soon as the sensor cluster
supplies a certain deceleration value during braking, any simultaneous desire to accelerate on the part of the rider is detected as implausible and throttle valve opening is suppressed. This keeps the motorcycle stable and shortens the braking distance. After a certain delay, the hazard warning lights are turned on automatically.

New BMW F 900 GS with ergonomics optimized for off-road use, enduro footrests and aluminum side stand. Optimized adjustable gearshift lever.

The new F 800 GS, F 900 GS and F 900 GS Adventure are not just for tall people. Sophisticated ergonomics and numerous available seat heights make them suitable for
everyone. For particularly easy accessibility, a low suspension is available.

The increased off-road capabilities of the new F 900 GS are expressed by the ergonomic triangle (handlebar – seat – footrests). The handlebars of the new F 900 GS are now
positioned 0.6-inches higher than on the previous model. The height can be increased by a further 0.9-inches via the Enduro Package Pro. In addition, the now standard Enduro
footrests are positioned 0.8-inches lower, which, in conjunction with the higher handlebar position and the new design of the fuel tank, offers particular advantages when riding standing up on rough terrain.

Thanks to their special design, the Enduro footrests ideally combine a sure-footed position and self-cleaning function. The rounded edges ensure that the soles of the boots are not damaged, especially when riding in a standing position. To save even more weight, the sidestand of the new F 900 GS is made of lightweight aluminum. Compared to the predecessor model, this reduces sidestand weight by around 0.9 lbs.

All three new models are equipped with an adjustable gearshift lever. This is adjustable in height and length in two positions and thus enables a variable position for road and offroad boots or for standing or seated riding. In conjunction with an optimized bearing and new gearshift lever kinematics, it was also possible to make shifting the six-speed transmission even easier.

The F 900 GS also features a new foot brake lever. It is positioned 0.2 inches higher and is now easier to reach in conjunction with the lower positioned footrests. In addition,
accessibility benefits from a further 0.8 inches when the folding surface piece is folded down.

    4. ELECTRONICS

“The new GS models in the F series offer high-quality standard equipment features such as LED headlight and turning indicators and perfectly readable 6.5-inch TFT displays with a wealth of connectivity options.” Christian Geis, Project Manager GS Models F-Series

New, lighter LED headlight for the BMW F 900 GS. All models feature full LED lighting.

Compared to the predecessor model, the LED headlight on the new BMW F 900 GS offers a larger low beam opening angle and thus better illumination directly in front of the motorcycle. This increases safety, especially when riding at night at low speeds. In addition, the new headlight is more than 1.3 lbs. lighter than the previous model. The new F 900 GS Adventure and the F 800 GS also feature full LED lighting all around.

Connectivity and functionality in the form of a large 6.5-inch color TFT display.

The new F Series GS models are equipped with a standard, large 6.5-inch TFT display. The amount of available information, quality of presentation and, last but not least, userfriendliness are unrivalled.

To ensure optimum readability even under difficult lighting conditions – the display was designed to be large and thus easy to understand. It is linked to the multi-controller on
the left-hand handlebar panel and can be operated quickly, safely, and conveniently from here. It offers screen displays tailored to the Enduro world as standard. Additional
displays are added with the optional Riding Modes Pro.

Phoning, listening to music and navigating while riding is very intuitive. If, for example, a smartphone and a helmet with a communication system are connected via the TFT
display using Bluetooth, the rider can easily access media playback and telephone functions. These functions can be used without installing an app. If there is an active
Bluetooth connection to a standard smartphone, the rider can listen to music while riding. In addition, the free BMW Motorrad Connected app offers practical arrow navigation
directly via the TFT display. The basic navigation is particularly attractive for motorcyclists who want to comfortably manage everyday traffic or short trips without additional equipment.

The new BMW F 900 GS comes as standard with multifunction holder to accommodate navigation devices, action cams and more.

The new BMW F 900 GS comes equipped with a standard holder which permits action cam or other devices to be mounted. The holder has been designed to provide optimum
readability in both seated and standing riding positions and to provide good weather protection with both small and large windshields. In order to install the BMW Motorrad
ConnectedRide Navigator or the BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Cradle, the GPS Prep option is required.

    Optional Intelligent Emergency Call.

An eCall system is available on the new models which aims to get help to the scene of the incident as quickly as possible. After being automatically or manually activated, the
intelligent emergency call sends the position data and thus the coordinates of the accident location from the motorcycle in the event of an emergency situation or accident and activates the rescue chain via the qualified BMW Call Center. eCall requires a mobile phone connection to activate the emergency chain.

Optional Keyless Ride for conveniently activating the locking functions.

As is already the case with other BMW Motorrad models, the optional Keyless Ride system replaces the conventional ignition-steering lock. This makes using the previously standard key superfluous. The steering lock, ignition, fuel filler flap and accessory antitheft alarm system are controlled by means of a transponder integrated in the motorcycle key, which transmits a radio signal with a vehicle-specific frequency. The key can therefore remain in the rider’s jacket or pants pocket.

    5. DESIGN

“With the new F 900 GS, we have not only achieved a very good result with regard to functionality, but also in terms of designing an athletic and sporty BMW GS. Pure GS, so to speak, and reduced to the original genes with powerful off-road qualities.” Edgar Heinrich, Head of Design BMW Motorrad

The new BMW F 900 GS sends out a clear signal: Off-road expertise.

The new BMW F 900 GS has been completely redesigned and benefits from a dynamic design that signals increased off-road abilities and sportiness, as well as visually highlighting the 30.8-lbs of reduced weight. One of the key points of the new design is the redesigned plastic fuel tank, which allowed for a much slimmer and ergonomically more favorable design with a capacity of only 0.1-gallons less than the previous model.

New, close-fitting tank side panels, together with a new radiator trim, give the new F 900 GS a sleek, sporty, and off-road-oriented look. At the same time, new frame trim
(featuring the GS logo) help the rider maintain optimum leg contact with the new F 900 GS, especially when riding off-road in a standing position. In typical GS style, the new F
900 GS features the short GS beak fender underneath the new, compact headlight and the typical GS flyline that stretches over the tank and the sporty seat to the rear.

Off-road qualities, sportiness and dynamic performance are also reflected in the rear section, which is significantly narrower than that of the predecessor model. The dynamic
appearance of the new F 900 GS is enhanced by the sporty rear Akrapovič muffler.

The off-road ambitions of the new F 900 GS are highlighted by the standard hand protectors. In the Style GS Trophy variant, an additional metal bracket and a newly
designed plastic panel ensure significantly improved protection for the rider’s hands and the controls in the event of impacts or falls, especially in off-road use. The front section features an enduro-style windshield. With a reduced shape, it provides sufficient wind and weather protection and prevents annoying helmet turbulence when riding in the seated position and offers protection from dirt and dust for the rider and controls when riding standing off-road. A higher Dakar-style windshield for even better wind and weather
protection with less helmet noise is available as an original BMW Motorrad accessory.

The new BMW F 800 GS Colors and Styles.

In the Base Style, the new F 800 GS is delivered in Light White solid paint with radiator trim and fuel tank center cover painted in Light White. Black handlebars and a black/blue seat with embroidered GS lettering provide an exciting contrast with embroidered GS lettering.

The new F 800 GS in “Style Sport” showcases its dynamic qualities in Racing Blue with Light White radiator trim and a Racing Blue fuel tank center cover. A clear windshield adds a sporty touch, while silver handlebars and a black and red seat with embroidered GS lettering add to the sporty GS feeling.

The “Style Triple Black” in Black Storm Metallic (also used on the fuel tank center cover) with Mineral Grey Matte Metallic radiator trim, the new F 800 GS emphasizes its purposeful look. Dynamic touches are the silver handlebars and a black-grey seat with embroidered GS lettering.

The new BMW F 900 GS Colors and Styles

The new F 900 GS is available in a Base Black Storm Metallic with the fuel tank cover painted in Mineral Grey Matte Metallic. The black-coated fixed fork tubes, black rear
frame, black wheel rims and a black seat with red contrasting elements harmonize with this. The radiator panels in Black Storm with GS logo provide a contrasting accent.

The optional “Style Passion” variant makes a sporty statement in São Paulo Yellow solid paint. Black-coated wheels and forks give it an athletic touch. The bike’s dynamic look is enhanced by the red rear frame as well as radiator trim, fuel tank side covers and fork slider tube cover in vehicle color with black/red graphics.

The sportiest “Style GS Trophy” version combines Light White solid paint, Racing Blue Matte Metallic and Racing Red. The new F 900 GS emphasizes its off-road character with aluminum brackets for the hand protectors, an aluminum engine guard, black fork tubes and the black seat (also with red contrasts). Sporty touches are provided by gold wheel
rims and a white rear frame. The fuel tank side covers and radiator trim in Light White solid paint as well as the front fender are highlighted with graphics in BMW colors of
    blue/red on a white background.

The new BMW F 900 GS Adventure Colors and Styles

The new F 900 GS Adventure shows that is ready for adventure, off-road tours, and longdistance travel in the Base Style of Black Storm Metallic (also used on the fuel tank center cover) and newly designed radiator trim with GS logo in White Aluminum. Black components such as the engine, fixed fork tubes, wheel rims and a black-grey comfort
    seat blend in harmoniously.

The new F 900 G Adventure in “Style Ride Pro” in White Aluminum Matte signals a spirit of adventure and long-distance travel qualities. Together with new radiator trim with GS logo in White Aluminum (also used on the fuel tank center cover) as well as a black-grey comfort seat, the new F 900 GS Adventure looks sporty and stylish at the same time.

BMW Motorrad crowns its 100th anniversary with the strongest sales result in the company’s history.

Munich. In its anniversary year, BMW Motorrad delivered 209,257 motorcycles and scooters to customers, 3.1% more than in the previous year and the highest sales volume in the company’s history. The regions of Europe, Asia and Latin America in particular made a significant contribution to BMW Motorrad’s record sales volume with record sales figures. Germany and North America also contributed to the record result with strong sales. The convincing product portfolio with successful offerings that characterise their respective segments and the market launch of popular new models such as the
high-powered BMW M 1000 R or the touring enduro icon BMW R 1300 GS were strong arguments for the successful performance in 2023.

Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad: “I would like to thank our customers all over the world for the great trust they have placed in us again in 2023. With a record result in our anniversary year, BMW Motorrad remains the world’s number one in the premium motorcycle and scooter segment and once again demonstrates the brand’s successful strategic orientation. Our market leadership in numerous segments is based on innovation leadership, our highly attractive product range and our strong brand. Based on these three main success factors, BMW Motorrad is ideally positioned and I am very confident about the year 2024.”

Solid sales in Europe with record growth in Eastern Europe.

With 116,012 (+ 4.7 %) motorcycles and scooters sold, Europe as a whole remained by far the strongest sales region for BMW Motorrad. Germany remained the strongest individual market with 24,176 units (+ 0.2 %), followed by France (21,668 units / + 2.1 %), Italy (16,179 units / + 3.3 %) and Spain (12,716 units / + 1.7 %). Eastern Europe also contributed to BMW Motorrad’s very pleasing overall European performance with sales of 6,000 units, a record increase of 105.4 % and more than double the previous year’s figure.

China, India, Brazil and Mexico made a significant contribution to this success.

In other regions, several countries ended the year with record sales. In Asia (47,061 units / + 1.6 %), both China (15,832 units / + 2.8 %) and India (8,768 units / + 20.4 %) achieved their best results to date. Brazil, with record sales of 14,106 vehicles (+ 8.1 %), and Mexico (7,088 units / + 6.8 %) also made a significant contribution to BMW Motorrad’s record result.

The R 1250 GS and GS Adventure, along with the highly successful new R 1300 GS, lead the way.

The boxer models R 1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure also delivered their customary strong performance, with sales of around 56,000 units. Together with the new R 1300 GS (4,528 units), which has been on sale since autumn 2023, the three GS models once again made a significant contribution to BMW Motorrad’s record sales of 60,535 units (+1.62%).

Sporty four-cylinder models with undiminished dynamism.

The fascination with performance and riding dynamics also resulted in a positive sales trend for the sporty four-cylinder models from BMW Motorrad. With 11,442 units sold
(+ 13.9%), the S 1000 RR underlined its top position and market leadership in the supersport bike segment, while the M 1000 R hyper roadster exceeded all expectations with 3,655 units delivered to customers. Together with the S 1000 R, the S 1000 XR and the exclusive M 1000 RR, 25,194 units (+ 7.5 %) of the high-performance four-cylinder models were delivered to customers worldwide.

BMW Motorrad also achieved top performance in the mid-range segment and in the BMW Motorrad segment of up to 500 cc.

With a total of 62,834 units sold (+ 3.2 %), the F series with two-cylinder engines and the G models with single-cylinder engines also made a significant contribution to
BMW Motorrad’s record result. The F 750 GS, which is particularly popular with new customers, was a particular highlight, with 11,064 units sold (+ 15.6 %).

Clear market leadership for the CE 04 and strong performance of BMW Motorrad’s Urban Mobility range.

With a share of around 70 % in the global market for all-electric motorcycles and scooters with an output of more than 11 kW, the CE 04 has secured itself the undisputed market leadership. With 7,177 units delivered, the expressive electric scooter exceeded the previous year’s deliveries by 44 %. Supplemented by the two successful scooters
C 400 GT and C 400 X, the Urban Mobility segment of BMW Motorrad achieved a sales volume of 20,460 units, which corresponds to an increase of 17.9 % compared to the previous year.

    Optimistic outlook for 2024.

Stephan Reiff, Head of Sales and Brand: “The sales record in our anniversary year is both an honour and an obligation. With numerous new, innovative models and products for our customers, we at BMW Motorrad will do everything in our power to build on this record year in 2024 and further consolidate our leading position in the premium segment. Our new GS models in particular will play an important role here. This year, our customers and fans can once again look forward to numerous world premieres, highlights, events and emotionally charged motorcycles offers.”

AMA Announces 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR 40th Anniversary Edition As 100th Anniversary Raffle Bike

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The world of motorcycling has many milestones in 2024, with the American Motorcyclist Association commemorating 100 years of promoting the motorcycling lifestyle, and Kawasaki celebrating the 40th birthday of the legendary Kawasaki Ninja.

To honor both anniversaries, the AMA is raffling a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4RR 40th Anniversary Edition in 2024. The Ninja joins a 1975 BMW R90S and 1997 KTM 200 EXC Jackpiner as the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame raffle bikes for 2024.

“The Kawasaki Ninja is an icon of a motorcycle, a model that is synonymous with the sportbike category like no other,” said AMA Chief Operating Officer James Holter. “We are honored and appreciative that Kawasaki approached the AMA with this opportunity to commemorate both of our historic milestones with this anniversary raffle. Even better, every dollar raised will go to fund the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving American motorcycling history for future generations through the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.”

The original Kawasaki Ninja 900 of 1984 is a historic piece of motorcycling history, melding open-class power — from an all-new liquid-cooled engine — with near-middleweight handling, a combination other open-class sportbikes simply could not match.

The new ZX-4RR Anniversary Edition mixes world-class sportbike handling characteristics with a screaming, 16,000-rpm engine that must be experienced to believe.

And now it’s up for grabs as one of the AMA’s latest raffle bikes.

“Kawasaki has supported the AMA’s mission for over 50 years as a Business Member helping to promote and preserve the motorcycling lifestyle,” said Kawasaki Regional Sales Director and AMA Board of Directors Member, Mark Hosbach. “This year marks the 100th anniversary of the AMA as well as the 40th anniversary of the legendary Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. We are proud to partner with the AMA to offer a limited 40th anniversary model of our new Ninja ZX-4RR motorcycle to be raffled off in 2024 to help further support the AMA’s cause.”

To enter, donate to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. A $5 donation will receive one ticket, or a $20 donation gets five entries. Participants must be 18 years or older and a resident of the United States to win.

Donate today to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum and be entered into the raffle for the 2024 Ninja ZX-4RR 40th Anniversary Edition.

The new Ducati Corse R&D – Factory MX Team presented in Madonna di Campiglio

After Ducati announced last October 24 its entry into the world of motocross with a range of models that will be available on the market in the next few years, Ducati Corse Off-Road, the Ducati division in charge of racing activity in the world of knobby tyres, has now presented the two prototypes that will be used by Antonio Cairoli and Alessandro Lupino in 2024, in Madonna di Campiglio during the Campioni in Pista event.

The Desmo450 MX, this is the name of the new model, was presented on the PalaCampiglio stage in the racing livery that it will sport in competition this year – in the Italian Motocross Pro – Prestige MX1 Championship – by the Ducati Corse R&D – Factory MX Team managed by Corrado and Marco Maddii. The target of this first season of racing is mainly to acquire data and information in racing to contribute to the development of the Desmo450 MX that will go into production in the second half of 2025.

The race debut of the Ducati Desmo450 MX is planned for March 16 and 17 in Mantua for the first round of the Italian Motocross Pro Prestige MX1 Championship.

Claudio Domenicali (CEO Ducati Motor Holding)

“It is a great pleasure to inaugurate another Ducati racing season in Madonna di Campiglio, a location that perfectly expresses the values of ‘Made in Italy’ of which we are proud ambassadors and which last year represented the starting point of an unforgettable season. The path that has led us to be the best in the world in racing is undoubtedly made up of the hard daily work of these years, but also of our ability to work as a team and have fun while putting our maximum effort into what we do. One of the strong elements of our brand is the ability to create a system and today we demonstrate this by jointly presenting the official teams for the 2024 racing season: the Ducati Lenovo Team, the Aruba.it – Racing Ducati Team and the novelty represented by the Ducati Corse R&D – Factory MX Team. Seeing the three bikes next to each other was a great emotion for me because, although different from each other, they are part of a single project. This belonging is underlined by the basic colour of the liveries, Ducati Red, the same for all, and also by a completely new graphic sign that recalls the curve present in the Ducati logo, inspired by the most exciting part of riding a motorbike: the bend. At the same time, these bikes are also an expression of the path that Ducati has taken in recent years, investing in its future. The entry into motocross is in fact the clear example that our will to improve and our desire to win have no limits. In these two days we will have the opportunity to give ourselves the right energy for a season that promises to be full of challenges, in which we will try to confirm our leadership in the main track racing world championships and demonstrate our capabilities in a new terrain such as specialist off-road. Challenges have always encouraged us to bring out the best and we feel absolutely ready.”
