In addition to Trackhouse founder and owner Justin Marks, a former NASCAR racer and owner of a NASCAR team, riders Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez were on hand, as well as former and current Grand Prix racers. They were joined by Massimo Rivola, CEO of Aprilia Racing, as well as Wilco Zeelenberg, the former 250cc Grand Prix racer who is the team manager for Trackhouse.

Wayne Rainey, a three-time 500cc Grand Prix World Champion and now President of MotoAmerica, and 1993 500cc Grand Prix World Champion Kevin Schwantz were both on hand, representing the period of Grand Prix racing that was utterly dominated by American riders. From 1978 to 1993, Americans won 13 of 16 500cc Grand Prix titles.

Trackhouse is based in North Carolina, but the satellite team will operate out of Noale, Italy, in conjunction with the Aprilia racing department. Oliveira will start the season on a 2024 RS-GP, while Fernandez will start racing on the 2023 version of the machine and transition to a 2024 during the season. Oliveira is a multi-time MotoGP winner with KTM, and Fernandez is a multi-time winner in Moto2 and runner-up in the Moto2 World Championship in 2022.

The partnership between CSBK and Gulf Race Fuels is set to commence at the season opening event, scheduled for May 17-19 at Shannonville Motorsport Park.

Team Announcement

TONE RT SYNCEDGE4413 BMW Racing announced the team structure for 2024 at the Tokyo Auto Salon venue (Makuhari Messe), at the TONE ALPHA booth. The collaboration with TONE Corporation marks its eighth year.

In the upcoming season, our ace rider, Tomoya Hoshino, will compete in the JSB1000 class, the premier category of the All Japan Series, using the 2023 BMW M1000RR. The team aims to consistently finish within the points range in races while continuing to work on machine setup and tire development.

Additionally, in the ST1000 class, alongside second-year rider Ainosuke Yoshida, we welcome newcomer Zechariah Kwame Dzegede. Yoshida will be supported for his long-term development as a young rider, utilizing his strengths to contribute as a rider for the next generation. Zechariah (Zech) has experience racing in Japan and participated in the Spanish Superbike Championship in the Stock 1000 class last year. The team aims to achieve top positions with his skills.

Regarding the Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race in the EWC World Endurance Championship, due to the absence of results in the previous year’s event, the team will start by competing in the 8 Endurance Tryout qualifying race on 4/14 to secure a spot. The goal is to win in the Superstock class for the first time since 2019. Details of the EWC participation will be announced when finalized.

Finally, the team expresses gratitude to sponsors such as TONE Corporation, BMW Corporation, Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. (DUNLOP), and others for their continued support. The team plans to engage in various promotional activities to introduce sponsors to a wider audience.

Suzanne Gobert posted the following earlier Wednesday on social media:

“My heart is breaking as I write this as my first born beautiful son Anthony has passed late this afternoon [Australian time] I loved him from the moment he was born until the day I die. At times he was challenging, to say the least, but he always had a kind heart and cared for everyone. Sadly, he was a victim of addiction, which runs deeply in our families. He tried many times to get better, but he couldn’t quite make it. I am so proud of him and thank all those good people who added to his life. You know who you are.”

Alex Gobert posted the following on his social media:

My eldest brother was my first proper hero. In a lot of ways, his influence on my childhood and our connection to the sport still stands strong to this day and I genuinely treasure those early memories. I always will.

Hopefully, especially for his sake, we can all celebrate the better times in his life, the moments beyond the immense struggles and also take the time to recognise once again that both addiction and mental health battles are very real, very difficult obstacles to overcome.

He is survived by his wife Alana, daughter Mishell, son Grant, and grand-daughter Tyra.

Velasco was a key player in the formative years of AMA Superbike, first with Yoshimura  R&D and then with the American Honda team and worked with riders such as the late Wes Cooley, Gary Fisher, David Emde, Freddie Spencer, Steve Wise, Fred Merkel, Steve McLaughlin, Roberto Pietri, Ron Pierce, Bubba Shobert, Larry Pegram, and others.
